Gilks chases longer Shrews deal

Blackpool goalkeeper Matt Gilks has targeted an extended stay at Shrewsbury to prove his career is far from over.

"This is a real chance to show what I can do," he told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"My career stalled at Norwich where I was in top form last season without ever playing, and my chances have been limited at Blackpool.

"I've played 200 games for Rochdale, so I know what League Two is about, and now at Shrewsbury this could be a real turning point for me."

Gilks was Shrewsbury's man of the match on his debut in a goalless draw at Lincoln, and he then helped the side to a 2-1 win over promotion-rivals Dagenham.

Regular keeper Luke Daniels has returned to training following his thigh injury, so Gilks knows he needs to keep on top of his game if his month's loan is to be increased.

"I'd jump at the chance to stay on," he said.

"I know Blackpool have taken another goalkeeper - Graham Stack from Plymouth - on loan, so going back there I'd probably be worse off.

"I'm really enjoying it at Shrewsbury, so I've got to train hard and play well."
