Graham Coughlan joined Shrewsbury from Rotherham in the summer.

Graham Coughlan has been confirmed as the Shrewsbury Town captain while Ben Davies is sidelined after his double hernia operation.

"Coughlan leads by example, and I've no worries about his taking over while Davies recuperates", Town boss Paul Simpson told BBC Radio Shropshire.

Coughlan said: "It's not something I'm new to. It's a privilege and honour to captain any side.

"I'm delighted the manager has asked me, and I'm more than happy to do it."

Follow Shrewsbury in their FA Cup first round clash at Blyth on Saturday (1400 GMT). Shropshire United starts an hour earlier than usual (1300 GMT).
