Asa Hall has turned down the chance to extend his impressive stay at Shrewsbury Town on a permanent deal.
After lengthy discussions, last term's loanee midfielder from Birmingham City, 21, has decided not to sign the contract he had been offered.
Disappointed Town boss Paul Simpson said: "That's life. He believes he has a couple of other clubs interested."
Simpson will now chase other targets, adding: "It's a case of pushing on and seeing if we can get them in."
Hall played 15 games for Shrewsbury during his loan period at the back end of last season, scoring three times.
Former Town manager Gary Peters had offered Hall a contract before he was sacked.
Simpson repeated that offer when Hall was freed by Birmingham in May and, at that stage, he looked a cert to sign at Shrewsbury.
"It's a dream move for me, and I'm really excited about being here next season," the 21-year-old midfielder told BBC Radio Shropshire at the time.
