Hart backed for long England stay

Former Shrewsbury youngster Joe Hart has been backed to be England's keeper for years to come by Glyn Thompson, the man he kept out of the Shrews team.

Manchester City's Hart has been named in the senior England squad.

Thompson told BBC Radio Shropshire: "If Joe stays fit and in form, he could play as long as he wants.

"He's cool and comfortable, and looks like he's played for Manchester City for 10 years. David Seaman played past 40, David James is late 30s. Joe's 21."

Thompson, who now runs a business matching coaches with vacancies, could not shift the up-and-coming Hart at the Gay Meadow and moved to Hereford and most recently Newport County.

The 27-year-old is awaiting news from County following the sacking of manager Peter Beadle before committing himself to a club.
