Mike Barnes is looking to a big future at Shrewsbury
Teenage winger Mike Barnes feels his switch from Manchester United's reserves to Shrewsbury Town will pay dividends for his career.
"I've a month to prove to Shrewsbury I'm worth a permanent deal," the 19-year-old told BBC Radio Shropshire.
"I need to play games at first-team level, and Shrewsbury is a go-ahead club where I can show what I can do.
"I don't know much about League Two, but I know how to run at people and create things. I hope I can impress."
Barnes knows opposition players will want to knock down the man with the United tag, but he insists he will take that in his stride.
"That's always the way," he said, " but it's up to me to overcome that."
Chorley-born Barnes, a lifelong United supporter, has been at Old Trafford for five years.
He played once for the first team, coming on as a half-time substitute in last season's live televised League Cup win over Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road.
"It was a surreal moment," he said, "playing on the biggest footballing stage in the world with so many people watching you."
And he insists he would swap all that to sign a full-time contract with Shrewsbury in the summer, and become a first teamer in the game on a more permanent basis.
More pertinently, ahead of a likely Shrewsbury debut against Bury on Saturday, Barnes also does at least have some recent experience of League Two.
Although he was on the losing side each time, he had three games for Chesterfield while out on a month's loan at Saltergate in January.
