Former Sheffield Wednesday captain Steve Watson has returned to the club to assist caretaker boss Sean McAuley.
The 35-year-old left the club this summer after failing to recover from a hip injury, but has moved back after the departure of manager Brian Laws.
Academy head coach McAuley said: "Steve has a wealth of experience and knowledge that can only help us.
"He is a Premier League player with Premier League confidence and we need that right now."
Watson made 46 league starts for the Owls between 2007 and 2009 and made his last appearance against Sheffield United in February's 2-1 win.
He started his career for Newcastle and also played for Aston Villa, Everton and West Brom - and featured once for the England B team.
