New signing James O'Connor has revealed he turned down a number of offers in favour of joining Sheffield Wednesday.

The 28-year-old midfielder moved from Burnley, signing a three-year contract at Hillsborough.

"The manager [Brian Laws] was important to me coming here. I was really on board with his ideas," O'Connor told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"Burnley offered me a new deal, along with other clubs, but I felt this was the standout place for me."

Owls boss Laws said: "I am delighted to have secured James. He is a proven player at Championship level and brings a wealth of experience.

"James will bring an excellent work-rate, great attitude, and numerous other qualities to our squad."

Dublin-born O'Connor started his career in England with Stoke City and featured for West Brom as part of their promotion-winning team to the Premier League in 2004.
