Marcus Tudgay and Akpo Sodje scored two goals each as Sheffield Wednesday blew away Burnley at Hillsborough.
Tudgay put the Owls ahead inside 60 seconds, with Sodje doubling the lead three minutes later.
Martin Paterson marked his Burnley debut by scoring with a near-post header, but Sodje restored Wednesday's two-goal lead on 17 minutes.
Sodje limped off halfway through the first half, but Tudgay killed the game on 65 minutes with an emphatic finish.
Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws: "The strikers looked in good form, I thought Marcus was excellent and Akpo showed what a player he can be.
"We made a poor start last season so we wanted to get a first win under our belts as quickly as possible.
"Akpo has got a possible hamstring injury, he won't play on Tuesday but I don't know how long he'll be out."
Burnley boss Owen Coyle: "I thought our defending was nothing short of nave, Wednesday didn't have to work hard because they were soft goals.
"Clarke Carlisle returning next week will help us enormously.
"Martin Paterson, Stephen Jordan and Wade Elliott did well but you won't win the league with only three players."
