Sheffield United midfielder Gary Speed admits there is no chance of him facing Burnley in the play-off final.
It had been hoped the 39-year-old, who is recovering from a back problem, could play in Monday's game at Wembley.
"If I would have been fit it then there would have been a case for me not playing anyway," the former Wales international told BBC Radio Sheffield.
"From a coaching perspective, it is my first real big game so I'm very much looking forward to it."
The former Everton man has not revealed whether he will play on beyond the end of the season.
If he does not, his last game in professional football will have been a 3-1 defeat by Wolves on 25 November.
