Blades chairman demands promotion

Sheffield United chairman Kevin McCabe says this season will only be seen as a success if the Blades win promotion back to the Premier League.

United failed to bounce straight back to the top flight last season, finishing ninth in the Championship

McCabe told BBC Radio Sheffield: "Success is what's on the agenda and that success to me is getting back to the Premier League next season.

"We're working hard to make this happen but a fair wind is also needed."

McCabe has also announced that the club has a newly appointed football executive committee which will run the on-field side of the business.

The committee will consist of director Terry Robinson, chief executive Jason Rockett, manager Kevin Blackwell, as well as one member of the McCabe family.

"Those four people will deal with the profiling of all new players and the current squad, as well as the academy, and handle the links with our overseas interests," said McCabe.

"Having this group gives reasoned opinions on all matters and it means the future of the football side of things happens by design and not by chance. It will also mean that decisions can be made more quickly."

Delisting will save the club a lot of money

McCabe said he expects the Blades to delist from the stock market in the coming months.

"We've not done it yet, but you have to keep in mind that myself and my family have controlled things for a number of years," added McCabe.

"Years ago football clubs were seen as good investments, but these days that is not the case and the share price is not an accurate reflection of what is happening.

"It's not been formally approved as yet, but delisting will save the club a lot of money because of all of the reports and documents that we are bound to produce that take time and cost a lot of money."

Meanwhile, United began their pre-season with a 3-2 win over sister club Ferencvaros on Monday. Danny Webber scored twice, with Billy Sharp on target with the third goal.
