David Mirfin began his career as a trainee at Huddersfield Town

Scunthorpe United defender David Mirfin could be on the sidelines for up to two months with a foot injury.

The 25-year-old sustained the injury in the first-half of the 4-1 defeat to Leeds United.

Iron manager Ian Baraclough told BBC Radio Humberside: "He's got a 2cm tear on the arch of his foot and it could be six or seven weeks.

"It's unfortunate, David was playing very, very well and was a solid part of a defence that was doing well."

He added: "It's unfortunate because he's one of the senior players, and we had too much disruption in the back four last season, and you want to try and keep as many players fit as you can."

Mirfin signed for Scunthorpe from Huddersfield Town in the summer of 2008, and has made 13 appearances so far this season, scoring two goals.
