Scunthorpe United have signed defender David Mirfin from League One rivals Huddersfield Town for an initial fee of 150,000 on a three-year deal.
The 23-year-old played 161 times for the Terriers after coming through the club's youth set-up to make his debut in the 2003/04 campaign.
The fee for the centre-back could rise and Town have a 25% sell-on clause.
Manager Nigel Adkins had been looking for a new defender, with Andy Crosby and Joe Wilcox out with knee injuries.
He is ineligible for the club's Carling Cup clash with Hartlepool on Tuesday night.
