On-loan defender Eddie Nolan misses Scunthorpe opener
Nolan will miss the opening game of the season at Reading
On-loan Scunthorpe United defender Eddie Nolan will miss the start of the season after injuring an ankle against York City in a pre-season friendly.
The 21-year-old, who is on loan from Preston until January, is expected to be out for up to three weeks.
Iron manager Nigel Adkins BBC Radio Humberside: "A challenge has gone in and he's gone over on his ankle.
"That's unfortunate and it's something that we don't want and we really can't afford things like that."
The Republic of Ireland international joined from Preston North End on a six-month loan deal earlier in the month and, despite having gained three full caps for his country, Nolan has found himself surplus to requirements at Deepdale.
The former Blackburn academy utility defender is looking to secure a permanent deal at Glanford Park in the New Year after falling out of favour with North End boss Darren Ferguson.
