Widdrington led Salisbury to 12th in his first full season in charge

Salisbury boss Tommy Widdrington says he wants to stay at the club despite their demotion to the Southern League Premier Division.

The Whites have been relegated two levels for breaching Football Conference rules on unpaid debts.

Widdrington told BBC Wiltshire: "I've a year left to run on that contract. It doesn't matter what league I'm in.

"I've spoken to all of my players and none of them immediately said to me 'I'm leaving'."

"I'm employed by Salisbury City. If the board express the wish that I remain then that's what will happen.

"Having known the ins and outs of what Salisbury have gone through, I was surprised at the decision [to demote the club].

"Somebody appealed against the same decision last season and it was upheld.

"At the end of the day we couldn't control the decision, its how we go on from here."

Widdrington joined Salisbury in 2005 and had his team not been deducted 10 points for going into administration last season, they would have finished sixth in the Blue Square Premier table.

He is now waiting to find out what budget he will be given in the Southern League.

"There'll be some big decisions to be made. Running a full-time football club is cheaper, pro rata, than running a part-time club.

"I don't see a reason to make wholesale changes. The biggest decision comes from the players."
