Salisbury City have presented their appeal against their relegation from the Football Conference.

The Whites face being relegated two divisions from the Blue Square Premier to the Southern Premier.

A Conference rule stops clubs entering if they owe money having gone into administration the previous season.

Last year, the Wiltshire club agreed a three-year repayment scheme with HM Revenue and Customs but have paid all other creditors back.

Salisbury claim their hands were tied because HMRC would not take a one-off payment and had they not agreed to it the club would have been wound-up.

The Whites will not discover the outcome of the appeal, which was held at Wembley, until Friday.

It is widely expected that the rule in question Appendix E will be scrapped by the Conference at their Annual General Meeting this weekend.

An online petition against their relegation has been signed by more than 5,000 football fans from across the country.

Salisbury won promotion to the Blue Square Premier in 2007 and have impressed in the three seasons since then.

Last year, they were deducted 10 points for entering administration and without the penalty Tommy Widdrington's side would have finished in sixth position.

Widdrington is waiting to see what level of non-league football the club will be playing at next season before putting together his squad.

So far only two players, Rob Sinclair and Danny Webb, have departed.
