Blankley quits as Salisbury coach

Salisbury City have parted company with assistant manager Barry Blankley, who has stepped down after nearly five years at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium.

The former Whites player had a part-time role at the club having joined the management team in October 2004.

Manager Nick Holmes has revealed his sadness to see him leave but said Blankley felt it was time to move on.

"I understand his feeling that there is no longer a suitable role for him here within the full-time set-up," he said.

"He was with us through some very special times and I'd like to thank him very much for everything he has done for the club."

Discussions about the future ownership of the club are continuing after it was put up for sale for £1 in April, but whatever happens Holmes says there will be a different structure to Salisbury in the future.

"There have been wholesale changes in the past year with all the part-time players moving on," he said.

"Tommy [Widdrington] and I work full-time as a team. He is in charge of first-team affairs, while I'm concentrating on salvaging the football club.

"Things are now moving forward with the sale of the club and we're all looking forward to the start of the new season."
