Holmes reflects on tough season

Salisbury manager Nick Holmes admits he experienced some of the biggest lows of his career during last season.

Despite a good start, the Whites struggled after financial problems at the club forced them to sell and loan out several players.

However, Holmes believes there were more highs than lows in the 2008-2009 Blue Square Premier term.

"Some of the football has been good and the results at the top sides have been enjoyable," he told BBC Wiltshire.

"We've probably had bigger lows this season than I've ever known," he added.

"I've gone into a realm of working with people that have had their money cut. Once that's been broken its difficult to give them a full volley at times!"

After recovering from the money problems, the south Wiltshire side went on an eleven match unbeaten run, which included a 2-1 win against champions Burton in March.

"I had great admiration for a lot of the players. That group that we finished with deserve great credit for what they achieved," said Holmes.

Holmes praised the role of goalkeeper James Bittner who was ever present and swept the board with the end of season awards.

"James fully took his chance. There isn't any better goalkeeper in the league at shot-stopping, some of his saves he's made have been fantastic."
