Salisbury ask for funds from fans

Salisbury City

Blue Square Premier side Salisbury City have launched a Save Our Squad scheme in a bid to both keep existing players at the club and to bring in new faces.

A similar fundraising drive raised 40,000 for the Whites in the latter part of last year.

Manager Nick Holmes told BBC Radio Wiltshire. "I was genuinely surprised at how much we raised.

"It showed me a lot of people want us to be in this division and in a way we are just asking for their help again."

Salisbury are looking for more help after chairman Neville Beal admitted they cannot afford to keep high earners like Matt Tubbs, Liam Feeney and Robbie Matthews.

City currently lie 18th in the top level of non-league football, just two points above the relegation zone.

"The players are certainly good enough to stay in this league," said Holmes.
