Salisbury keen to keep Clohessy

Salisbury City

Salisbury City coach Tommy Widdrington is keen to keep Gillingham defender Sean Clohessy at the club.

The 22-year-old completes a three-month loan spell at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium after Saturday's Blue Square Premier trip to Cambridge United.

Widdrington wants Clohessy to stay for the rest of the season but expects competition from other clubs.

"He's done ever so well. We can't be so arrogant to think that we're the only club to be interested," he said.

Clohessy has impressed since moving to Salisbury and has scored two goals in the process.

"We have been speaking to Sean and to [manager] Mark Stimson at Gillingham," Widdrington told BBC Radio Wiltshire.

"His pedigree is even higher than Gillingham. He had a lot of time at Arsenal as a young lad, you can see the way he plays football. He wants to attack and that's his best line of defence.

"I'd love to take him until the end of the season. His application in training is excellent."

Clohessy netted on his Salisbury debut at York in September and said he has enjoyed his time in Wiltshire but is not sure what the future will hold.

"I'm going back to Gillingham on Monday and will sit down and speak [to Stimson]," he said.

"Obviously I want to play the highest level I can play and push on, I've just turned 22.

"I believe in myself and can play at the highest level."

Clohessy has made nearly 50 appearances for Gillingham and hopes he has done enough to impress Stimson.

"In all the games I've played I've worked my hardest. I didn't leave anything in the locker," he added.
