I am not a target man - Rushden striker Rene Howe

Rushden & Diamonds striker Rene Howe says he does not regard himself as a target man.

The 23-year-old, who is on loan from Peterborough United, scored the winner in the 1-0 win against AFC Wimbledon.

Howe told BBC Radio Northampton: "I don't see myself as a target man. I like to bring people into play but I run with the ball as well.

"I was wondering when the goal was coming. You don't always get the luck but now we need to get a run going."

Howe has played in all four of the Diamonds' Blue Square Bet Premier fixtures this season.

Last season's play-off semi-finalists have begun the new season by losing twice, drawing once and winning once, on Tuesday night.

"We needed that first win, because we've not played badly in last few games," said Howe.

"But we should have seven or nine points rather than four."
