Cook had been reluctant to leave his hometown club

Crawley Town have re-signed forward Jamie Cook for his second spell at the club, following his release from League Two side Oxford United.

The 30-year-old, who was a target for another former club Rushden & Diamonds, only left Crawley for Oxford in September on a two-year deal.

Reds boss Steve Evans told the club website: "Cooky is such a talented lad, he is a proven natural goal-scorer.

"He can produce that bit of magic that is needed to win the big games."

Cook added: ''I am delighted to be back and to be playing for the manager again. There is no doubt I have played my best football under him and that was such a big factor in my decision to come back here.

"I am also pleased to be given the opportunity to score goals again in front of the Crawley Town faithful, who have a special place in my heart."

Cook started his career at United, playing for them between 1997 and 2001, in what are now the Championship and League One.

He then had spells at Boston United, Stevenage and Rushden before joining Crawley, where he scored 33 goals in 78 appearances.

The U's re-signed Cook last year after fans funded a deadline day move.

Last week, Rushden boss Justin Edinburgh told BBC Radio Northampton the club were hoping to sign the striker and Cook said: "There are a few clubs interested in signing me but at the moment, I'm favouring to come to Rushden if I can sort things out with Oxford."
