Diamonds the key for me - Porter

Max Porter is hoping for more success with Rushden & Diamonds after winning his first England C cap in midweek.

Along with Diamonds goalkeeper Dale Roberts, the 22-year-old was part of a 2-1 win against Poland in Grodzisk Wielkopolski on Tuesday night.

"It was a great experience," Roberts told BBC Radio Northampton. "But my priority is to do well for Diamonds.

"There's not a lot of satisfaction yet because we're not in the play-off zone, so we need to keep going."

Diamonds are on a run of six straight wins that have earned them an FA Cup second round trip to Brighton and lifted them to seventh in the Blue Square Premier table - three points shy of a play-off place.

And Porter hopes that his midweek experience can only help when he gets back to form his usual Diamonds midfield quartet alongside Rob Wolleaston, Mark Byrne and Paul Terry.

"There's a difference in the style of play, compared to the Conference," he said. "You feel like you mature and any experience is good if you can learn from it.

"I think I've played solidly. I'm trying to add a few more goals, and Paul Terry does give me the licence to come forward. He's a good pro, with experience, and he's good on the ball.

"Rob Wolleaston helped me in a different way at the start of the season, and Mark Byrne has been outstanding as well.

"We've got a lot of talented midfielders at this club."
