A brace from on-loan Barnet striker Cliff Akurang maintained Rushden & Diamonds' promotion challenge as they overcame Histon in a hard-fought match.
Akurang fired Rushden into a first-half lead with a powerful strike from the edge of the area and then scored a second, rifling in a low drive.
It could have been worse for Histon but keeper Danny Naisbitt pulled off a string of high-quality saves.
A late Andrew Tidswell header gave Histon hope, but the home side hung on.
