Rushden and Diamonds manager Justin Edinburgh was delighted with his side in the 3-0 win at Workington Reds.
Diamonds advanced to the FA Cup first round thanks to goals from Aaron O'Connor and two from Michael Corcoran.
Edinburgh told BBC Radio Northampton: "Once we got the goal in, we started to play a bit of football. I'm delighted with the all-round performance.
"I asked my players to play with the ball on the floor, and they coped really well with the conditions."
Diamonds took the lead at Borough Park through O'Connor, who flicked the ball into the net from a corner after 20 minutes.
Lee Tomlin missed a penalty for the visitors, but Corcoran scored with a close range finish and converted from the spot in the second half to seal the win for the Diamonds.
"All the strikers had outstanding work-rate today. It was a thorough performance from start to finish," added Edinburgh.
