Downer has played for Leyton Orient, Aldershot, Weymouth and Grays

Rushden & Diamonds have signed Sutton United defender Simon Downer and released centre-back Leo Roget.

Former Leyton Orient central defender Downer, 27, has played for Wivenhoe and Sutton on non-contract terms this season following his release by Grays.

Roget, 31, was in his second spell at Nene Park, having signed on a non-contract basis at the end of November after a spell with Diamonds in 2004.

Meanwhile, striker Daryl Clare could leave the club for family reasons.
