Millers release striker Burchill

Rotherham United

Rotherham United have terminated the contract of former Scotland international striker Mark Burchill.

Burchill, 28, joined the Millers last June, having also previously played for the club on loan in 2004.

The former Celtic and Dunfermline man struggled to hold down a regular place in the starting line-up and started just 10 games, scoring five times.

Millers chief operating officer Paul Douglas said: "We would like to thank Mark for his efforts for the club."

Burchill started his career with Celtic, going on to make 63 appearances and score 24 goals for the Bhoys.

During his time at Celtic Park he netted a four-minute hat-trick against Luxembourgian side Jeunesse Esch in a qualifying round for the 2000/2001 Uefa Cup.
