Fenton has signed in time for their opening game against Lincoln
Rotherham United have signed Grimsby Town defender Nick Fenton but goalkeeper Mark Oxley has joined Premier League side Hull City.
The Millers will receive 150,000 for Oxley, 18, but the fee could increase depending on appearances.
Fenton, 28, has agreed a two-year deal with the Millers and said he was delighted to return to South Yorkshire.
He told BBC Radio Sheffield: "I am happy to come to the club and I am looking forward to a good season."
Fenton added: "I was placed on the transfer list at Grimsby after playing the whole season and I am happy to come to Rotherham United where I will hopefully get a game for the first team."
Meanwhile Millers boss Mark Robins has signed a contract extension until 2012.
