Grimes failed to establish a first team place at Millwall
Rochdale have signed striker Ashley Grimes on a two-year deal following his release by Millwall.
The 24-year-old is manager Steve Eyre's first signing at Spotland, and the new Dale boss knows the forward from his time in the Manchester City academy.
Grimes told the club's website: "I know this football club has done really well over the last few years.
"I know Steve and I know he's a top coach and a top man - I'm sure he can keep moving this club forward."
Grimes joined Millwall after leaving City, but found first-team opportunities limited at the New Den, making just seven starts.
He joined Lincoln City on loan in October last year, and despite their relegation from League Two he scored 17 goals in 30 appearances.
"I have had some interest from plenty of clubs," Grimes added. "But when I knew Rochdale and Steve were interested it was a move I simply couldn't refuse."
