Andy Griffin aims for Reading recovery

Reading full-back Andy Griffin says the team will use Monday's defeat by Sheffield United to spur them on.

The Royals' hopes of automatic promotion from the Championship ended with the 3-2 defeat.

But Griffin told BBC Berkshire: "Sometimes in life and in football you do need a little bit of a wake-up call and hopefully that is it.

"We've been on a fantastic run. We were a team with a certain mentality, a certain belief and we still are."

The former Newcastle and Stoke man added: "We played well for 20 minutes but then we dropped off but it's not just about how poor we played, they deserve credit too."

With two matches remaining, Reading still need a point to ensure their place in the play-offs.

They play at Coventry City on Saturday, before ending the season at home to Derby County.
