Matt Mills expects Reading to improve on poor start

Reading defender Matt Mills believes the Royals will soon improve on their poor start to the Championship season.

The Royals crashed out of the Carling Cup to Northampton on penalties in midweek and are 19th in the table after two draws and one loss.

Stand-in captain Mills told BBC Berkshire: "We are creating chances and having shots on goal so we're not a million miles away.

"There's trust within the squad that we can perform and win games.

Mills, who has been leading the Royals in the absence of the injured Ivar Ingimarsson, emphasised the importance of picking up points against Leicester this Saturday before the two week international break.

"The quicker we can get three points the better," he added.

"Obviously with the international break, being on five points looks much better than being on two or three so Saturday is a massive game and we're all aware of that."

The defender has found himself in rich goal-scoring form after grabbing a brace in Tuesday's Carling Cup defeat by Northampton but insists his preference is to win games than score goals.

"There's not going to be too many games where I score two goals but as a team to score three goals at home and not win is bitterly disappointing.

"We are all looking to put that right and get a win on Saturday."
