Reading striker Simon Church believes the 1-1 draw against Portsmouth was a good sign for the season ahead.
Jimmy Kebe scored a late equaliser for the Royals - their first point of the Championship season.
Church said the hard-earned point would stand them in good stead for their next match against Nottingham Forest.
"We showed how diligent we are and for us we are just looking forward to our next game and hoping to win it," he told BBC Berkshire.
"It was a great point for us [at Portsmouth] with conceding early on.
"We knew it was going to be tough to come down to Fratton Park but at half time we knew we could get a point here and we could have won it."
Reading entertain Forest at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday.
