Mills will miss Tuesday's game against Plymouth Argyle
Reading defender Matt Mills says having the support of the Reading fans has spurred the team on in recent weeks.
Mills was dismissed during the Royals' 2-1 win at Doncaster at the weekend but has enjoyed the team's recent form.
He told BBC Berkshire: "Fans aren't going to cheer you on when you're not playing good football and not winning games and we understand that.
"We're on a good run at the moment so if they can continue to back us, it's all for the better."
Mills will be suspended for Reading's next match against Plymouth on Tuesday, but he says the team are relishing having another game come around so soon after the last.
"We're in a good run of games at the moment and we just want to continue that. Luckily it's a Tuesday game and it can't come quickly enough," he said.
Reading could move out of the relegation places with a winand Mills believes the fans will play their part in making the Madejski Stadium a difficult place for other teams.
"When we took the lead [at Doncaster] and the fans were singing to the manager and are backing the boys, it really does spur you on," he added.
"I don't think we've had that for a lot of the season. That's not the fans' fault - it's the people on the pitch and the people in the dugout.
"But I think we're starting to get things right and if we can get the fans on board then we can make the Madejski Stadium a really hard place to come and win."
Reading versus Plymouth Argyle kicks off at 2000 GMT and is live on BBC Radio Berkshire.
