Reading must stay in touch - Shane Long

Long's winner against Barnsley was his first league goal since April 2009

Shane Long has warned Reading there can be no let-up after they brought their winless run to an end against Barnsley.

The 22-year-old striker scored the Royals' winner on Saturday to give them their first Championship victory in eight games.

He told the club's website: "It was the start of three important games, three games we need to get points out of.

"The teams above us seem to be picking up points every week so we can't let a gap open up."

Reading currently sit third from bottom in the Championship - three points adrift of safety.

They face Doncaster on Saturday before a crucial relegation battle with fellow strugglers Plymouth three days later.

Long added: "Doncaster away followed by Plymouth at home - they are games we need to get points out of."
