Rodgers replaced Steve Coppell over the Summer

Reading manager Brendan Rodgers is warning his players that the hard work is about to begin as they prepare for their first pre-season friendly.

Rodgers will take charge of a Reading team for the first time since leaving Watford when the Royals take on Didcot Town on Wednesday 15 July.

He told BBC Berkshire: "There's a lot of hard work ahead as it's going to be a really competitive season."

"I'm looking forward to seeing how the players adapt and cope with the work."
