Queen of the South have signed Willie McLaren after the winger had his contract torn up by Clyde.

The 24-year-old, previously of St Johnstone and Airdrie, has signed a two-year contract with the Dumfries-based Division One club.

He was one of 12 players who agreed to leave Clyde to prevent the Cumbernauld club, relegated to Division Two, going into administration.

McLaren becomes manager Gordon Chisholm's fourth summer signing.

Striker Derek Holmes arrived from St Johnstone, goalkeeper Ludovic Roy from Dundee and midfielder Rocco Quinn from Hamilton Accies.

However, striker Stephen Dobbie joined Swansea, midfielder Neil MacFarlane opted to leave for Morton and defender Andy Aitken headed for promoted Ayr.
