Preston can stay up, says on-loan Ricardo Gardner

Preston defender Ricardo Gardner believes North End are more than capable of staying in the Championship, despite being 10 points from safety.

The Jamaica international captain, 32, is currently on a one-month loan from Bolton Wanderers.

"I think we have the players to get out of the position we're in," Gardner told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"It is a big ask but Phil [Brown - manager] has got the right people around him to get out of trouble."

He has made two appearances since arriving from the Reebok Stadium on 8 March.

I just thank God I'm over my injuries now and give credit to the medical staff at Bolton

Gardner, who suffered cruciate ligament damage and a knee injury during his time with Bolton, was instrumental in Preston's 3-0 win over Scunthorpe on Tuesday.

"The lads make it easy for me to fit in," he said.

"I just thank God I'm over my injuries now and give credit to the medical staff at Bolton.

"I'm glad I'm here at Preston now and just want to try to get them up the table where they deserve to be.

"We didn't deserve to lose in my first game against Leeds, but it was great going to Scunthorpe and getting three points. I hope we can now get a few more points on the table."
