Preston defender Sean St Ledger has reaffirmed his desire to remain with North End for the foreseeable future.

The 24-year-old, whose current contract runs out in 2012, is sought-after following a number of impressive performances this season.

"I signed a contract for a reason, because I wanted to be at Preston," St Ledger told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"I feel, with the manager, staff and players here, it's the best way for me to improve."

The Birmingham-born player, who has been named in a Republic of Ireland squad, has already recorded his best goal-tally in a single season, scoring four times during the 2008-09 campaign.

I'm here for the long haul and have already achieved a few things, but I don't feel like I've achieved everything here yet

His most recent goal came in the 3-1 win against newly-promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers in January.

"I'm at a stage where I've improved consistently for three seasons and I want to carry that on," he said.

"When I first came here I was probably a little bit lucky with Youl [Mawene] being out with injury.

"And after playing that whole season it gave me the confidence to progress further.

"So I'm here for the long haul and have already achieved a few things, but I don't feel like I've achieved everything here yet and there's still plenty to aim for."
