North End explain Davies decision
Billy Davies
Davies was turned down by Charlton
Preston chairman Derek Shaw has revealed why he refused Derby's approach for manager Billy Davies.

"In Billy's own words, Billy Davies will not leave Preston unless it was right for him and the Preston board," Shaw told the Preston website.

"We do not feel it is right to lose him to a Championship club."

Davies is said to be threatening North End with legal action because they let him speak to Charlton - who turned him down - but not Derby.

Shaw added: "At the end of the day I am here to protect the interests of Preston and to be seen to step aside and allow our manager to join one of our league rivals, I feel would be wrong."

Derby approached Preston with a view to talking their manager, but the Lancashire club turned the request down before telling Davies.

"If the stance is they (Davies and his advisors) want to take legal action then that will be down to the lawyers, not me," said Shaw.

"If legal action does follow then it will be dealt by our lawyers."
