Chairman Derek Shaw gave the Addicks permission to talk to the 42-year-old Scot, insisting it was in the best interests of the club.

And Davies said: "I went and had a very good, long meeting with Charlton.

"The discussions went great. From those discussions there's a lot to consider - the place, the type of club, the money to be spent - lots to think over."

Davies is wanted by the Addicks to replace Alan Curbishley, who left the club at the end of the season.

Davies added: "I found Charlton to be very good people, very, very good people.

"It's now just a matter of looking at the whole picture and making the right decision."

Hull manager Peter Taylor has ruled himself out of the running while the Addicks have been refused permission to talk to Colchester boss Phil Parkinson.

Taylor had an interview with the Addicks earlier in the week but decided he did not want to quit the Championship club.

Despite the talks, Shaw was adamant that Davies still had a job to do at Deepdale.

He said: "He is still our manager, we gave him permission to speak to Charlton, which he did on Monday and I spoke to him on Tuesday morning for an update on events.

"As far as we are both concerned the situation has not changed and unless there are any future developments then Billy will continue to prepare for next season."
