Petrov is under contract at Celtic until 2010 |
Portsmouth remain confident of prising midfielder Stilian Petrov away from Celtic with an improved offer. "We are going back (with a bid)," chairman Milan Mandaric told BBC Scotland. "And I hope we can resolve something by the end of the week.
"We still have some way to go but we are hopeful we should be able to conclude a deal."
The 27-year-old Bulgaria international had a transfer request rejected by Celtic at the end of last season.
Petrov is under contract until 2010 but has made public his desire to play in England's top flight.
The Scottish champions are keen to hold on to the player and have already turned down at least one approach from Fratton Park.
On Saturday, Pompey boss Redknapp said: "We decided to give it another go with Stilian because I'd really like to get him.
"It is entirely up to Celtic what happens with the bid and I wouldn't tell them what they should do. I would very much like to get a deal done."
