Geoff Horsfield prepares for talks on Port Vale future

Assistant manager Geoff Horsfield expects to meet chairman Bill Bratt before the final game of the season to discuss his future at Port Vale.

The 37-year-old is approaching the end of his contract at Vale Park.

"I don't know what's happening and I've got to speak to the chairman later this week to try and get something ironed out," Horsfield told BBC Radio Stoke.

"It's very hard because we've got to plan pre-season as well and try and sort some games out."

He continued: "It's just all up in the air at the minute but we'll play the game on Saturday [against Barnet] and try to organise things from then on."

Micky Adams signed Horsfield as a player-assistant manager in July 2009, but constant injury problems prevented him from making any real impact on the pitch.

Horsfield and caretaker manager Mark Grew have taken charge of the first team since 21 March following the departure of Jim Gannon, but they have been unable to guide Vale into a play-off spot.

Off-the-field issues have dominated Vale's season and Horsfield believes the outstanding issues, including the appointment of a new manager and the uncertainty surrounding a takeover bid, need to be resolved quickly.

"It's been a rollercoaster season and I don't think there will ever be a season like it," said Horsfield.

"If I ever go onto another club or I stay here, I don't think that can happen.

"You should really be preparing for pre-season a month ago and nothing's been prepared apart from the American trip, so we've got to try and get a little bit of stability.

"Obviously it will not be as turbulent as this season was. We can build, try to get into the play-offs or get promoted."
