Vale's Horsfield to face disciplinary hearing over row

Geoff Horsfield
Horsfield has been assistant manager at Port Vale since July 2009

Port Vale assistant coach Geoff Horsfield is to face a disciplinary hearing after a row with manager Jim Gannon on the team bus on Friday.

The club say both men have asked for legal representation, but Gannon told BBC Radio Stoke that is not true.

"I don't need to have a meeting with the board, all I will provide is a witness statement," he said.

"I was perfectly within my rights to leave the bus. We'll decide at the end of the disciplinary where we stand."

Horsfield was not present during the win over Aldershot on Saturday and has not been at training this week.

"It's definitely got to be sorted out, it can't go on how it is. Obviously there's a problem between me and him," Horsfield told BBC WM on Sunday.

Gannon, who joined the club in January after Micky Adams left for Sheffield United, said: "It's now important for the club to do things privately, and for the statements they make to be strong, and to show good leadership."

The former Stockport and Peterborough boss also said that he had no problem with goalkeeper Stuart Tomlinson despite him posting on Twitter: "Awesome events on the team bus." The former Crewe and Burton man later added: "Someone has left the bus."

Gannon added: "I don't see the need to castigate the lad, who's just passing comment on something he's seen."
