Port Vale manager Jim Gannon thrilled with first win
Gannon's Port Vale side travel to Wycombe in League Two on Saturday
Port Vale boss Jim Gannon has praised his players after ending a turbulent week at the club with his first win in charge against Rotherham on Tuesday.
Jay O'Shea scored the only goal in a 1-0 win at Vale Park, their first victory in six games under Gannon.
The manager and some members of the squad met with the Vale board on Monday to discuss their poor form.
"I had a really good feeling about the game despite what happened on Monday," Gannon told BBC Radio Stoke.
"I really felt that, with everything that had gone on, it was poised nicely for us to come in and have tremendous energy to go out there and get a result."
When everybody gives that effort and plays with a touch of quality you've got a real chance of winning games

Vale are up to fifth in League Two and have closed the gap between themselves and Rotherham, who currently occupy the final automatic promotion position, to a single point.
They face another of the promotion chasers on Saturday and Gannon is looking for another big performance when the Valiants travel to Wycombe.
"The feeling is great because you've won," he added. "The players have given a tremendous effort, every one of them.
"When everybody gives that effort and plays with a touch of quality you've got a real chance of winning games.
"It's a step in the right direction and I'm sure what all the lads want to do is build on this now."
