Port Vale loan man Jemal Johnson returns to MK Dons

Port Vale have been turned down in a bid to extend the loan of Milton Keynes Dons frontman Jemal Johnson.

Despite being hampered by a few knocks, he had impressed Vale's coaching staff and was expected to stay another month.

But Vale received a late call from Dons on Monday afternoon revealing that they wanted the 25-year-old to return.

Vale have also been hit by the loss of wide man Rob Taylor, who has been ruled out until December with a bad hamstring injury suffered on Saturday.

Following Johnson's return to Milton Keynes, Vale boss Micky Adams must now find a way of replacing Taylor for this Saturday's trip to Cheltenham.

Taylor had to helped off 25 minutes into Saturday's goalless draw against Gillingham with what has proved to be a torn hamstring.

Taylor signed a new contract in March that will keep him at Vale until 2012

And, following scans, the club have now estimated that he will be out for around six to eight weeks.

Injury-hit former Wolves striker Johnson was restricted to just two starts and four substitute appearances for Vale after joining on an initial one-month deal.

"He started against Hereford, waited for a chance, trained hard, got a knock and had to come off at half time. He's been unfortunate," assistant manager Geoff Horsfield told BBC Radio Stoke.

"And again, I don't think he was fully fit against Gillingham on Saturday."

Vale, knocked off the top of League Two on Saturday, are now without a win in four matches.
