John McCombe has played every game for Port Vale this season
Port Vale's John McCombe is hopeful he will be rewarded with a new deal after a impressive start to the season.
"Being out of contract in the summer, I've just tried my best to try and impress Micky Adams," the 24-year-old defender told BBC Radio Stoke.
"I'm quite pleased with the way things have gone this season. If I keep playing the way I have, hopefully I'll be earning a new deal."
McCombe has shone as part of a three-man Vale defence this season.
The former Hereford centre-back has started every match for Vale this season, scoring in the 1-0 win at Shrewsbury on 10 October.
The Valiants have improved under new boss Adams, and are being tipped as genuine promotion contenders in League Two after a disappointing 2008/09 season.
"The gaffer's helped a lot of players, the performances are getting there and there's more in this squad," added McCombe.
"Last season we didn't show as much as we could, but this year we've been a lot better."
