Former Port Vale striker Mark Bright believes the club's Carling Cup heroics will boost everyone at the club.

Micky Adams' side have beaten Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday to reach the third round for only the fourth time in the club's history.

"Things haven't been going great for Vale recently and I was really pleased for them," Bright told BBC Radio Stoke.

"It will give the club a huge boost, and a home tie against a Premier League club would be brilliant for the Vale."

Goals from Kris Taylor and Rob Taylor gave Vale a 2-0 win over Championship side Wednesday and secured their passage into the last 32 of the Carling Cup.

I was happy to see Vale get the win, and the first goal from Kris Taylor was probably the goal of the competition so far

"Having played for both Port Vale and Sheffield Wednesday, the tie was a win-win situation for me," added Bright.

"I was happy to see Vale get the win, and the first goal from Kris Taylor was probably the goal of the competition so far."

The draw for the third round takes place on Saturday, with the Valiants being the only team from the bottom tier of the Football League still left in the competition.
