Hopeful Swan talks up Robbie link

Robbie Williams is Port Vale's most famous fan

Former Port Vale player Peter Swan has said if he got the vacant manager's job he would "make" millionaire fan Robbie Williams put more money into the club.

Swan is keen on becoming the Valiants' next boss and believes his friendships with the pop star and darts legend Phil Taylor could prove fruitful for Vale.

"I'd like to think I can get Robbie and The Power (Taylor) involved.

"I'd tell them: 'We're in it together, let's take this club back to where it belongs'," Swan told BBC Radio Stoke.

"I've got my coaching badges and I'd love to put my CV in and have a chat," the 42-year-old former Vale defender said.

"I was talking to them (Taylor and Williams) and they're interested in getting more involved.

"They could play a massive part getting Vale back to where they should be.

"I'd make them - I'd be knocking on their doors, they're still Vale fans.

"There's too many people scared of upsetting people. They need someone to grab them and give them a kick up the backside."

Swan, who played for Leeds, Hull, Plymouth, Burnley and York, made 139 appearances for the Valiants in the 90s.

The club are to appoint a successor to Dean Glover, who was relieved of his duties last week.
