Port Vale captain Sam Stockley has undergone eye surgery after complaining of double vision.
The 31-year-old says the problem first occurred in pre-season when he suffered a head injury leaving him with difficulties focusing.
The former Colchester defender told BBC Radio Stoke: "It needed to be done or it would have got worse. I wouldn't have been able to see very well."
Stockley is unlikely to have recovered for Saturday's trip to Barnet.
The ex-Barnet, Oxford and Wycombe man says he could require further surgery depending on how well he recovers.

"I might need another operation if it's not corrected, but I'll have all the summer to get over that," he said.
Vale signed Stockley from Wycombe last summer.
