Stockley plans managerial career

Port Vale captain Sam Stockley is keen to move into management when his playing career is over.

The 31-year-old defender, who has been at Vale since July 2008, is currently taking his coaching badges.

Stockley told BBC Radio Stoke:"It's something that's bitten me and I'm really interested in doing it.

"When I hit 28 or 29 I started thinking about the other side of the game and how I would handle things like man-management, which is so important."

Stockley says his contacts in the game have fuelled his desire to take up the position in the dugout.

He added: "I've been lucky enough to know some people high up in the game and I speak to them about management in the Premier League. That's the road I want to go down.

"I would want a good backroom team behind me that I can trust and work with players and get them to believe in what I'm doing."
