McCombe joined Port Vale from Hereford on a free transfer
Port Vale defender John McCombe says that the whole team are desperate to see under-pressure manager Dean Glover succeed at Vale Park.
A group of around 100 supporters protested after the 1-1 draw with Wycombe on Saturday, forcing Glover to be escorted away from the ground.
McCombe told BBC Radio Stoke: "He hasn't had chance to bring players in. When he has, it's been on the cheap.
"We've shored up at the back, hopefully the goals will come next season."
Glover took charge of Vale in October following the dismissal of Lee Sinnott.
He has struggled to win over many of the supporters during his seven months in charge.
Vale are currently 19th in League Two and only secured their Football League status for another year during the Easter weekend.
McCombe, meanwhile, has enjoyed a strong end to the season, and said that his partnership with Lee Collins in the heart of the defence is beginning to bear fruit.
The 23-year-old added: "We've done well in the last seven or eight games and hopefully we can take that into next season.
"I've been in and out of the team throughout the season, but I've played the last 14 or 15 games and that's helped me become more consistent."
